The fight against retail and business crime across Wakefield City Centre will hot up next week when Wakefield Area Business Against Crime (WABAC) unveils a new digital radio link-up for shops and businesses.

Officially launching on Wednesday 30th September at 3:30pm, the roll out of the new digital system is being delivered by WABAC in partnership with Direct Communications Radio Services (DCRS).

Steve Hunt Business Crime Manager (WABAC) stated: “The new digital radio network and the links between businesses and shopping centres in Wakefield to the CCTV control room will improve public safety and greatly assist in the fight against retail and business crime. The digital network is more secure and has a clear radio signal; it’s a big step forward for the City of Wakefield.”

Eileen Holroyd, WABAC Chairperson and Centre Manager for The Ridings Shopping Centre comments: “Through WABAC we are constantly investigating new ways of combatting retail and business crime across our city. We have seen a great deal of progress in recent years and believe that the new digital link up will help us to continue to reduce crime rates whilst also reinforcing that there is no place for crime in Wakefield.”

WABAC is a non-profit partnership supported by Wakefield Community Safety Partnership and consists of the Ridings Shopping Centre, Trinity Walk, Wakefield businesses and Carlton Lanes shopping centre.
