DCRS has partnered with a leading forklift truck manufacturer to deliver a bespoke communication and safety solution for one of their long-standing clients operating across multiple UK manufacturing depots.
The client was already using Motorola DP Series radios to maintain communication between the office staff, loading bay and forklift drivers. However, they required two critical enhancements:
- A site-wide emergency alert system capable of instantly instructing all truck drivers to stop operations around the site.
- A cab-based communication solution that would allow forklift drivers to speak directly to staff in the loading bay, yard, or nearby vehicle drivers without leaving their cab – improving efficiency and significantly reducing risk.
A Tailored Emergency âAll Stopâ Solution
To meet these requirements, DCRS engineered a custom safety system using Motorola DM4400 Series mobile radios. Each forklift cab was fitted with a dedicated All Stop button. When pressed, it sends an immediate alert across the entire radio network, instructing all forklift drivers to halt operations.
The activation also:
- Sends an instant alert to the managersâ office
- Illuminates a stop light inside the driverâs cab indicating all drivers to stop immediately
- Triggers a flashing beacon on the roof of the forklift to warn anyone in the vicinity of an emergency situation
Once the area is declared safe, the driver simply presses a reset button, which turns off the warning lamps on all trucks, allowing operations to resume as normal.
Cab Tannoy System for Safer, Faster Communication
DCRS also developed an innovative cab tannoy system, integrating directly with the DM Series radio. This enables the forklift driver to broadcast messages through loudspeakers mounted on the cab roof.
With a single button press, the driver can speak to staff in the loading bay or nearby drivers without leaving the cab – improving situational awareness, reducing unnecessary movement, and enhancing overall site safety. When the message is delivered, the system automatically returns to standard two-way radio mode.

Both systems were designed and engineered entirely in-house by DCRS. To date, we have successfully installed these solutions on over 500 forklift trucks, providing our client with safer, smarter and more efficient operations across their depots.
