How our R & D Department Evolved

How did the DCRS  R & D Department for Radio Communication Voice & Data Solutions Evolve?

Bernie Goosman initially joined DCRS as a Senior Radio Engineer, but as the digital radio market began to evolve we found we needed a dedicated Research & Development Department that could assist our clients with applications & development of their radio systems.

Fast forward eight years based at our HQ in St Ives, Cambridgeshire now alongside two colleagues Simon, Systems Engineer and Jamie, Radio Systems & Client Support Engineer we have a team who collectively have a unique range of skills and experience.

By coupling the advances in digital innovations with their technical expertise, the Team at DCRS have been able to deliver new & innovate solutions that meet and exceed our client’s expectations throughout the Uk & Europe.

The Engineers within our department have multiple roles including:
  • Consultancy and advice on system/application selection
  • Designing solutions to meet onsite processes for example health & safety requirements
  • Sample and prototype development for onsite evaluation
  • Aiding in the achievement of Management Approval

Our R & D Department have also helped DCRS get involved in market research with other software companies to develop new & improved product solutions.

What does a typical day look like

There is no such thing as a typical workday, but there are many typical activities that are common. There might be an emergency that has occurred overnight, customer visit to arrange to trial a system or the building of a system which is due for delivery.

“My day always starts out with checking emails and reviewing the calendar for the day,” says Bernie. “Depending on frequency or timing of meetings and conference calls for the day, the decision will be made to focus primarily on development work for clients. Our customers are always our No. 1 priority, so customer deadlines will always take precedence over everything else,” declares Bernie. “Coupled together with Jamie supporting our clients remotely no one day is the same.”

Training our Team

The types of training they undergo can vary from manufacturer training to industry specific qualifications they are working on.

What have we learned over the last ten years?

We have dealt with such a broad spectrum of market sectors we know there will always be a solution to a problem. Our teams’ experience has been central to our growth, and they are vital in helping us achieve the company’s future goals.
