University Bridges Coverage Gaps with MOTOTRBO™ Digital Two-Way Radios and TRBOnet Application

With new buildings changing the face of the campuses, reception and communication between staff were becoming sporadic at best due to the limited signal strength of the existing analogue system. DCRS had to provide a reliable radio solution to eliminate weak spots, protect staff, and monitor all users throughout multiple sites.

The three campuses cover an area of 30 miles and are located in Wolverhampton, Walsall and Telford in Shropshire and each has their unique characteristics that radio coverage has to overcome. It has approximately 23,000 students.

The existing analogue systems were all working separately and were unable to cover each campus from end-to-end, giving users serious coverage gaps. Spread over a total of 30 miles although one of the campuses is only open at certain times, security is still maintained 24×7. Teams were using mobile phones to stay in touch, but even they experienced coverage gaps in certain parts of the campuses and lower parts of the buildings.
