Steve Luscombe, Sales Director initially joined DCRS in 1994 to open and manage our Northern Regional Office.
Then, here and now
We began in a small office in Sheffield. As you would expect the first few years were tough, I assisted with the growth of DCRS and nurturing existing clients. A big breakthrough came when we began to work on a project for a new Shopping Centre in Sheffield, Meadowhall which has now grown to be one of the largest in Europe. This project delivered not only a large scale Motorola Solutions radio system but the first MOTOTRBO radio application designed and sold in the UK.
Before this, the majority of our work consisted of smaller projects which were based on sales of small to medium radio systems or hiring equipment into major events and exhibitions. With regular contracts and projects rolling in we then began to grow our team employing two salespeople, one engineer and two administration staff to support our Northern Regional Office, many of who still work with us today.
It is particularly gratifying to be celebrating this anniversary as our industry is growing at one of the most rapid rates I have witnessed in my career. Demands for digital technology, applications, and integration continues to grow, and I am proud that DCRS continue to embrace this allowing us the be one of the most dynamic radio communication companies in the UK today.
I live and breathe DCRS! All of our staffs working styles complement each other, with our clear objectives and a shared ethos I feel this has been our recipe for success.
Key milestones to date include the growth from five to over thirty staff, four office relocations, nurturing staff and apprentices through completion of courses & qualifications, and implementing business changing CRM technology to give our clients 100% traceability after restructuring our systems in 2014 due to our continuing growth.
What’s your greatest achievement?
Bringing a business through recessions and maintaining successful business relationships for so many years is something we are very proud of. I have seen DCRS grow from a small establishment that was formed to support local companies in Cambridgeshire and Sheffield to offering worldwide support to a multitude of sectors. Building solid relationships with clients that come back to us time and time again is something that is of primary importance here at DCRS because they trust us to do a good job.
In 1994 our average monthly turnover was between £ £10,000-£15,000, and we started to see this increase month on month, fast forward to 2017 we now invoice on average £190,000 per month, so this shows far we have come through continuing investment, growth and support from our clients and staff. Thirty years on are still working with some of our very first clients such as ASDA Walmart, The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, Crufts Dog Show, and the Kier Group to name a few.
It may not be the Oscars … but when MOTOTRBO Digital products were launched back in 2007, DCRS was awarded the Motorola Solutions Digital Dynamo award for the three consecutive years that it was run. In 2016 we achieved the EMPOWER Award for recognition of our business growth, again this couldn’t have happened without the support and hard work of our dedicated staff and valued clients.
How will DCRS be celebrating this milestone anniversary?
We are looking forward to reflecting and celebrating our anniversary for the remainder of the year sharing stories new and old on our website. We will be hosting a hospitality day where key contacts and clients will join us, and we hope to pull all staff from throughout the country together later in the year to celebrate.
The past 30 years for DCRS has had more highs than lows, and personally, I have enjoyed every minute of working with my fellow Directors, Peter and Margaret and seeing the company flourish and become one of the largest radio and application integrators in the Uk respected by our clients and manufacturers.
I look forward to our next 30 years and assisting in continuing to drive DCRS forward in one of the most exciting eras our industry has seen.
